Hi! We're so glad you've chosen Dublin, Ireland for a staycay! Great idea! This is one of our favorite locations in the world and we hope you find yourself loving it too!
Dublin is home to the Guinness Brewhouse and the Book of Kells, and it's where James Joyce, and Oscar Wilde were born (not to mention Liam Neeson's son Michael!).
Your itinerary for this Staycay Tour includes:
But enough reading about Dublin, let's go SEE Dublin!
To start your tour and move through your tour stops, just click on the > pointer up on the right (and swiping works too if you're on a mobile device). Enjoy!
You're arriving by plane into Dublin Airport -- it's such a perfect view out the window today! And how convenient that on your staycation so many of the interesting things you see are labled right on the video! Enjoy your landing.
Now that you've landed, let's get check in to your hotel -- and what a hotel you have! You're staying in luxury at The Merrion right between Merrion Square and St. Stephen's Green! Four Georgian townhouses were combined to create this gorgeous establishment. Here's a look around.
You're all checked in -- we hope you like your suite! If you're an art lover, be sure to take in this peek at your hotel's art collection!
Now let's see some of the city! We're going for a walk next, and before we head out if you'd like to listen to a local Dublin radio station while we're walking (and if you're on a device that will let you listen to two things at one time), just click on this link.
Dublin has a ton of great radio stations, and RTÉ -- Ireland's national media service -- offers a great selection too. Those are the stations you can choose from via the link below. They've got everything from pop to classical to traditional Irish music. Pick whatever you're in the mood for if you like, and then we'll get going!
Let's get out and about! We're going to take a walk from St. Stephen's Green (a major park right near your hotel) down the world-famous Grafton Street which is known not only for its many shops but also for the bounty of musicians and other entertainers regularly out performing. The walk will continue past Trinity College (where the ancient Book of Kells is kept -- we'll double back to see it), and then we'll finish up at the O'Connel Street Bridge which spans the River Liffey.
We've doubled back on our steps a bit now to find ourselves at Trinity College -- step on in through the historic entrance, learn a bit about the school, then see the library and hear about the Book of Kells!
The Long Room is such a striking place at the college, We'd love for you to get an even better look around with this virtual 360 view...
If you'd like to see more of the Book of Kells, here is a link to images from the world-famous Getty Images library for you to explore.
Next stop on your tour: Dublin Castle! It's now a conference center and home of many government offices, but it's been best known as the seat of the British Government in Ireland when the whole island was under British rule. Most of the current Castle was built in the 1700s, but a castle of one kind or another has been on the site since the 1100s!!
We're going to join a vlogger from Northern Ireland and his family on their tour of the place. Enjoy!
Dublin Castle was super cool. Now, to see the other side of the chuch/state balance which is so much a part of so many countries' history, let's go to one of the most famous churches in Dublin: St. Patrick's Cathedral!
Is all this touring around making you hungry? Let's get a taste of traditional Irish food with a fun couple who enjoy sharing the experience with you! And on a Staycation Tour, you can enjoy all meals in one sitting! Enjoy!
No trip to Dublin would be complete without a visit to the home of Guinness Stout, the Guinness Storehouse and hophouse tour! It's the #1 tourist destination in Ireland! And no wonder: Guinness has been brewed here in Dublin since 1759! Here's a great walk through to let you enjoy the whole thing.
It's time to start finishing out our tour by checking out Dublin's nightlife with a walk around the Temple Bar area to check out the pubs and the live music the floats out into the streets. After this walk about, we'll stop in at a pub to check out the craic (sounds like "crack" - it's how the Irish describe great fun / good times) and we'll hear some traditional Irish music there. But first, this walk around...
And now for some of that traditional Irish music we mentioned! Let's stop in at The Ferryman Pub, just a bit down the River Liffey from Temple Bar.
All good things must come to an end, and as such, it's time to fly home. But even our time in the airport brings on the fun and fellowship that seems to fill every corner of Dublin. Thanks for coming on this Staycay Tour! Enjoy this final piece of your staycation, and thanks for touring with us. Please take another Staycay Tour soon!
Of course, no vacation seems complete without souvenirs. So, here's our version of a gift shop -- links to some places where you can find fun souvenirs of where you just visited.
(We don't make any money off of your purchase or you clicking the link or anything like that, so don't worry about the prices being inflated. Happy shopping!)
